jsamans said - Funny you should ask that, because less than 1/10th of 1% is also how much of the recent omnibus spending bill was earmarks. Yet I see that you never wrote a blog entry asking why Republicans were stirring up such outrage over *that* amount of the hundreds of billions in *that* bill.

Funny you should bring that up. Besides breaking a campaign promise to eliminate earmarks Obama passed them with a wink and a nod. The equivalent of GH Bush's "read my lips, no new taxes" promise. Approx 60% of the earmarks were Democrat based and 40% of them Republican. And what was the justification? Note that most of the Obama cheerleaders in the mainstream media defended Obama using the administration's talking points about them being less than 2% of the total omnibus. Suddenly this 0.1% looks foolish.

I think the Repubs are asses for putting in the earmarks but sadly this isn't a daily blog so I don't cover every topic but the Watcher's Council members are very heavy with daily posts.

You will note that I include both Republicans and Democrats in the post concerning AIG contributions. The Democrats not only knew about them they approved them.

Republican's lost in 2008 because they turned their backs on their base and thus the American people. McCain sucked, what can we say? But I sense the tide will turn eventually; especially considering that today marks the first time in 6 years that Republicans pulled ahead of Democrats in the Rasmussen generic poll:(a great indicator that the Dems are falling out of favor quickly)

Support for the Democratic Congressional candidates fell to a new low over the past week, allowing the GOP to move slightly head for the first time in recent years in the Generic Congressional Ballot.

The latest Rasmussen Reports national telephone survey found that 41% said they would vote for their district’s Republican candidate while 39% would choose the Democrat.

Investors now favor Republicans by a 46% to 36% margin, while non-investors would vote Democratic by a 45% to 33% margin.

I appreciate you taking the time to comment and hope to see you back in the future! The Watcher

"...why the outrage over less than 1/10th of 1% that was part of the hundreds of billions in bailout money..."

Seems that it would have deserved at least a short gasp of outrage, particularly seeing as how the earmarks came from Republican as well as Democratic politicians. But then, that particular piece of news didn't fit your pre-determined ideological agenda, so why should it be surprising?

It's all so funny, because centrist votes like mine are the ones that are always up for grabs, every election, and yet whether it's Pelosi courting illegal aliens or Limbaugh spouting his drivel, the loudest voices on both sides spend all of their time trying to motivate the handfuls of Americans who would support them no matter what.

That's why Republicans lost big in 2008: because they were too hypocritically preachy and ridiculous, not because they weren't conservative enough.
