For a nation demonized in so many quarters, it’s amazing how often a tiny country like Israel is there when disaster hits. The latest instance was in Mexico City, which suffered a devastating 7.1 magnitude earthquake that killed at least 149 people.
Among other things, the killer quake exposed a huge amount of corruption and bribes for building permits and approvals issued for what was actually substandard construction. The quake collapsed a number of these buildings, burying people in the rubble.
Israel’s response? To send in the IDF’s crack search and rescue teams along with humanitarian aid, emergency response teams and medics from Israeli aid agencies:
As the Israelis move in, they’re applauded by the people of Mexico city…
In this news story, Mexican rescue workers honor their Israeli counterparts by singing the Mexican national anthem to them…
Here’s some footage of the Israeli search and rescue teams in action…
The Israeli response is even more impressive when you realize that Mexico has been less than supportive of Israel in international forums like the UN. Yet the Israelis came anyway.
And this is by no means the only time this has happened.
Israel is there when disaster hits.
