The Wife and I sat on our front porch listening to the night sounds, enjoying a clear night under a dark sky. I mentioned the reopening of the FBI investigation of Hillary’s emails and she said, “Well at least it will soon be over.”
She meant the election, but I got to thinking she was right only if Trump wins. If Hillary wins we’re in for a long nightmare of congressional inquiries, special investigators, and that’s just over Clinton’s handling of classified material.
Giving the Clintons power is like giving sports car keys to a drunk teenager. You know it’s not going to end well. Hillary wasn’t even in the White House and she’s managed to cause a scandal that not only threatened national security, it divided the FBI with agents submitting their resignations after FBI Director James Comey refused to indict her, and provided proof to Clinton critics that the Clintons play by a different set of rules than the rest of us.
With Clinton Inc. at the levers of power what new scandals beckon? Bill’s indiscretions will not stop in the White House. Their single-minded pursuit of wealth will not suddenly vanish and be replaced by a deep sense of altruism and civil service. No, it will be the 1990’s again just with social media shouting every scandal in our faces moments within their discovery, and a continuation of the last three years.
As Chicago Tribune columnist John Kass notes, “What if she is elected? Think of a nation suffering a bad economy and continuing chaos in the Middle East, and now also facing a criminal investigation of a president. Add to that congressional investigations and a public vision of Clinton as a Nixonian figure wandering the halls, wringing her hands.”
We have China that has turned the western Pacific into it’s own swimming pool. Russia shot down a plane full of Europeans, invaded a sovereign country and annexed a chunk of it all the while supporting an insurgency with its own troops, and supports a blood-thirsty ophthalmologist in Syria, and gets away with it all. Meanwhile ISIS is exporting jihad throughout Europe, and German Chancellor Angela Merkel seems determined to assist it by refusing to vet newcomers. And America has become the Rodney Dangerfield of the world, a comedian that gets no respect. Domestically Globalization has replaced tens of millions of well paying manufacturing jobs with a few thousand high paid jobs in Silicon Valley and millions of minimum wage jobs. Obamacare is circling the drain and Hillary Clinton’s response to all of this? Donald Trump says some stupid things.
As a former Clinton supporter I sympathize to a degree with those who still think the Clintons were slandered by the “vast right-wing conspiracy”. But eventually the evidence that the Clintons were corrupt became too much for me to ignore. Those who continue to stick by the Clintons are proof that the human capacity for living in a complete fantasy is truly endless.
