Do Americans have any idea their patriotism might be exaggerated from the point of view of foreigners?
Dude…have you met us?
Knock knock who’s there?
This was my last answer about America.
Nah. We’re awesome. We’re the best. Love us or hate us, everyone is talking about us.
America! Freedom the fuck on!
This is one of my previous answers about America.
Exaggerated? Our patriotism is way more exaggerated than yours. I don’t care where you’re from or how much you love your country, we love ours more, because ‘Murica!
See, you have to understand, American Patriotism is simultaneously hyperbolic and honest. We really do love our country, but we sort of make a game of seeing just how over-the-top we can take it. It’s created a feedback loop, where we’re known for being super-duper patriotic, so we try to be super-duper-extra patriotic with cherries and sparklers and shit.
Sure, for some people, they’re 100% serious. But for many of us, we see how ridiculous we’re being, but we’re doing it on purpose. We really do love our country, but we take it to the absurd for giggles.
We really can’t stop. We know it’s silly, but we fucking love it. The image below is the sort of thing we love.
Now, if you want to calmly and rationally discuss America, both the good and the bad, with hard facts to support your position, most of us will listen. We may even agree to some of what you say. We know our country isn’t perfect. Frankly, it never will be, but we keep trying.
We are America. We were founded on idealism. We fuck up and we fall short, but we never stop trying to be better tomorrow than we were yesterday. We are the land of dreamers and innovators, of scientists and philosophers. We are the land of the free and the home of the brave.
But if all you want to do is whine and cry about us, if all you have for us is hate and vitriol, if all you want to do is lecture us on how much we suck, if you have nothing to contribute but complaints, well then I’m sorry…
I can’t hear you over the sound of my freedom.
