Susan Rice, Barack Obama’s National Security Adviser is refusing to testify in next week’s hearing before the Senate Committee on the Judiciary on Russia meddling in the 2016 election and Rice’s unmasking and targeting of Trump campaign staffers.
Rice’s attorney, Kathryn H. Ruemmler of LATHARM & WATKINS LLP sent the letter this afternoon to Chairman, Lindsey Graham and Ranking Member Sheldon Whitehouse, Subcommittee on Crime and Terrorism on behalf of Rice. Not long after, CNN broke the story and posted the letter online (see letter at bottom of post).
The decision was made after Rice’s counsel (or Rice) received a letter from Committee’s Ranking Member, Whitehouse’s stating that he disagreed with Lindsey Graham’s “invitation to Ambassador Rice, a significant departure from the bipartisan invitations extended to other witnesses. Under these circumstances, Ambassador Rice respectfully declines Senator Graham’s invitation to testify.”
Rice’s attorney claims that they received short notice “without consultation” to Ambassador Rice.
…While Ambassador Rice commends the Subcommittee’s efforts to examine this matter of extraordinary national significance, it is extremely rare for the Congress to request the testimony of a former senior advisor to the President given the longstanding and well-recognized separation of powers concerns at issue. Moreover, Chairman Graham’s invitation was extended only after the hearing was noticed, less than two weeks before the hearing was scheduled to occur, and without consultation with Ambassador Rice, a professional courtesy that would customarily be extended to any witness. Notwithstanding the significance of these concerns, Ambassador Rice is prepared to assist Congressional inquiries into Russian election interference because of the important national interests at stake, provided they are conducted in a bipartisan manner, and as appropriate, in classified session….
The news of Rice’s refusal to testify at next week’s hearing comes within hours of Jim Comey’s hearing before the Committee today. Coincidence? I think not and when did Whitehouse send his letter?
…An unnamed source told CNN that Rice initially thought the invitation had bipartisan backing, adding that Rice saw the invitation as a “diversionary play” to distract from ongoing investigations into Russian interference in 2016.
Graham told CNN on Tuesday that he wanted to ask Rice questions because he had seen reports that she was involved in the “unmasking” of an American citizen who was incidentally surveilled….
As expected, Progressives are lining up behind one of their own to cover up Susan Rice’s treasonous deeds under the order of Barack Obama.
As for Lindsey Graham, he’s a RINO, a NeverTrumper and for all we know, Graham who has for years collaborated with fellow Progressives on the other side of the aisle is a willing participant in this dog and pony show.
